The dog must be mature enough to do Started level work. The dog will learn basic obedience, such as: sit, heel and here, force fetch and collar conditioning. The dog will learn to retrieve marks on land and water, up to 50-75 yards away. The dog will be trained for gunfire and decoys. The dog will be ready to run UKC Started/AKC Junior Hunt Tests after learning this level.
The dog must have completed Started level to begin this level of training. At this level, the dog will be able to perform double marks, simple blinds and will learn hand signals on land and water. Steadiness on the line, steady to wing and shot and diversions will be taught at this level also. The dogs will be ready for UKC Seasoned/AKC Senior Hunt Tests after learning this level. This will give you a great hunting dog.
The dog must have completed Seasoned level to begin this level of training. This level is for the experienced hunting dog. They will learn to do multiple marks (3-4), complicated blinds over all sorts of terrain and honor another working dog. This dog will be competent to enter UKC Finished/AKC Master Hunt Tests after learning these tasks.
The dog must be mature enough to do the work. The dog will be trained to sit, heel and here. The dog will be collar conditioned and socialized with other dogs and humans during this time.
The dog must be obedience trained and collar conditioned before going through force fetch. This will teach the dog to hold without dropping, chewing, or mouthing the bird or bumper, deliver to hand at heel position and fetch from the ground upon command. The dog must be mature enough to go through force fetch. Force fetch takes a minimum of one month.
This is for dogs that have already achieved the seasoned or finished level, but needs some tune-up work before the hunting season begins.
We will take your puppy at a young age and introduce him/her to puppy obedience, other dogs, humans, bumpers, pigeons, ducks and small land and water retrieves.
Before the dog completes his/her training, we will train the owner of the dog to handle the dog. We encourage our clients to come out and participate in the training of the dog as often as possible.
If you are interested in bringing your dog to Sandy Creek Farm Retrievers dog training, please contact us by email or phone. We would like to set up a time to meet with you and your puppy/dog.
If you have a puppy, our dog trainers will evaluate your puppy to see if he/she is mature enough to start obedience training. If you have a dog, we look to see what your dog already knows and decide from there what training he/she will need. Once this determination is complete we can set up a day and time for you to drop your puppy/dog off to start training.
When you bring your dog for training, we will ask you to bring with you the following copies from your veterinarian:
